Hello Fellow Athletes,
I am passionate about endurance sports and fitness due to the tremendous positive influence they have had in my life. I want to share this passion and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle with you!
On New Year’s Eve 2003 as I raised a glass of champagne, I turned to my wife Maria and said, “My New Year’s Resolution this year is to complete a triathlon.” She was stunned. It seemed like a crazy goal as I was 40 pounds overweight, I wasn’t regularly exercising, and diagnosed a pre-diabetic.
It was an embarrassing state to be in for a former athlete. Somehow life had gotten in the way, and I found myself so far out of shape that the goal of a race of any kind, never mind a triathlon, looked insurmountable. I was determined to change my life, after looking at family photos of that year’s summer vacation in Cancun. Who was that big guy running up from the waves onto shore? Is that what I really look like? Not to mention my doctor’s warning that if I didn’t change my lifestyle there would be serious consequences.
Fast forward…Sixteen years and five Ironman Triathlons, 12 Ironman 70.3 races, two-time Boston Marathon qualifiers, and countless other endurance races including multiple 100K run finishes, and the results are in. I’m in better shape at 50 than I’ve ever been in my life. I have more endurance now than I did in in high school. My vital statistics tell a completely different story than they did 16 years ago, and it all began when I started to train.
Now I want to share my passion for fitness, health and endurance sports with you. As a USA Triathlon level-one coach, an Ironman certified coach, a TrainingPeaks certified coach, and an NASM certified personal trainer, I am teaming up with like-minded individuals who want to get fit, stay fit, and live a happier healthier life.
